Cracked windshield...what to do..

June 25, 2019

Driving with a cracked windshield is extremely unsafe! And can lead to serious issues. If you are driving around with a cracked or damaged windshield, it’s important that you should get it fixed as soon as possible!

One of the issues that a cracked windshield causes is visibility and blind spots. Making it hard to see what is happening on the road and in the traffic around you.

Remember that small cracks don’t usually remain small. Before you know it, it will be stretching across your whole windscreen, impairing your ability to see and drive safely. This obviously increases your change of being in an accident on the road, endangering your life as well as the lives of others around you.

And if it does happen that you get into an accident, and the airbags get deployed, often the airbag inflates very quickly and strikes the windscreen. If the windscreen is cracked, it might not be strong enough to withstand the force of the shatter and the strike. Increasing the chance of further and unnecessary harm being done by a vehicle accident. And the other concern is, if a windscreen is not properly intact, the deployment of the airbag could be hindered. This means that the airbag can’t perform the action it’s been installed for. Its full benefits during an accident won’t be available.

Not able and strong enough to support the structure of the car during an accident, this could lead to the roof caving in or the frame falling down on the passengers of the car.

This just all goes to show why your windscreen should be properly fixed and fitted.
