Here are the official fuel price forecast for May 2024 for both petrol and diesel.

South African motorists face an uncertain month in May, with petrol prices rising and diesel prices falling.

While diesel is dropping by between 30 and 36 cents per litre for 500 ppm and 50 ppm of lower sulfur, both grades of petrol are expected to increase by 37 cents per litre.

Filling up a small car with 30 liters will cost R11.10 more than it did last month, and refueling a medium vehicle with 50 liters would cost R18.50 more.

The wholesale price of diesel in Gauteng will be R22.24 per liter, while for residents near the coast, it will be R21.48. You will save R25.20 if you fill the 80-liter tank of your Hilux or Fortuner with 70 liters.

According to the DMRE, increasing crude oil costs and a declining rand are the reasons behind May's fuel price changes.
